Benchmark Literacy - Text Important, Sequence of Events
Example from Kinder:
Students will:
  • Identify the sequence of events in pictures and text.
  • Identify and use the signal language for sequence of events.
  • Determine important information in text.
  • Use academic sentence frames to discuss strategies
About the Strategy
  • The order in which events happen is called a sequence of events.
  • Signal language, such as firstnextthenafter, and finally, can help readers recognize and understand sequence.
  • Recognizing sequence helps readers follow directions, learn steps in a new process, or understand how events unfold over time.
In your Benchmark Lessons - are you remembering this part of the lesson?  From kinder lesson Unit 3 day 1:
Reflect and Discuss
Ask and discuss the following questions:
  • Why is it important to recognize a sequence of events?
  • How does knowing the sequence of events help you understand what you are reading?
  • What are some signal words that can help you figure out the sequence of events?
Connect and transfer. Say: Remember, you can look for sequence in a text, too. Tomorrow, we will practice looking for sequence in a text.
