Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports
  1. Identify the expected behaviors,
  2. Teach, model and practice what those behaviors look like, sound like, and feel like,
  3. Specifically praise appropriate behavior with private or public acknowledgement, and
  4. Measure outcome data to determine successes and barriers to reaching the desired goals.

How is your Guided Reading Going?  Do you use thinking partners?  Have you given specific instructions on what turn and talk will look like?  What kind of exit tickets are you using in your classroom?
During lunch I asked students what level they were reading on.  I was disappointed at the number of students who couldn't tell me.  Every child should know what their F & P reading level is and what their goal is for the next reading assessment in December.

Formal Observations:
Formal observations have begun.  Be sure to check your calendar invites.  Remember that your pre conference form must be complete prior the meeting.
The post conference form must also be complete before the post conference.
Are the activities in your classroom reflected in your lesson plans?  Do your objectives match what is occurring the classroom?
How are you using the leveled book room?  Can your students explain what their current reading level is and what their goal is for the next reading level?  How often do they practice independent reading?  Are they practicing to have the stamina necessary to take a 90 minute test?  During lunch I asked students what level they were reading on.  I was disappointed at the number of students who couldn't tell me.  Every child should know what their F & P reading level is and what their goal is for the next reading assessment in December.

Take every opportunity to help make this a better place for our children and ourselves.  It starts with a kind word, soft touch, and a smile.

Teacher Attendance:

Teachers who miss 11 days of school a year are considered “frequently absent” (as defined by the National Council on Quality Teaching).  These absences include personal days/sick days/professional development.  Studies from the National Bureau of Academic Research show that classes where the teacher is frequently absent have a significant decrease in student outcomes.  If we want to help our children be their most successful, we have to BE HERE.  The research is definitive- your attendance makes a difference for your students.
Student achievement is directly tied to attendance - theirs and ours.

Coolidge Teachers missed 72 days (sick leave, professional leave, and personal leave) in the first 9 weeks of school (96%)  Teacher attendance was 97% without professional leave.  Our goal is 98% - we almost made it.  Lets try for that 98% for 2nd nine weeks.

Thanksgiving Break is November 23 - 25th.  Please remember by contract you cannot take personal days prior to a break.  If you take sick leave I will need a doctors note.
