COVID Mask Mandate from the Superintendent:  Regulation that will require face coverings to be worn on school property, in school vehicles, and at school-sponsored events regardless of your vaccination status.  We have plenty of masks for adults and students if you have someone who needs a mask. The goal is to help everyone stay healthy.

As we begin to build relationships with our students and colleagues, please remember every child needs a champion, someone to be glad to see them and excited to hear what they have to say.  You never know how far your influence in a child's life can go, nor do you know what struggles they may be facing in their home life.

Whale Done to Coach Barton for getting Coolidge our new dismissal program. It will take a day or two to work out kinks, but I feel confident this will help speed up dismissal. With that being said - it will continue to be All Hands on Deck for Dismissal.

Guidelines for Staff - Do’s and Don’ts for Photography & Videography During COVID-19

In the interest of keeping OKCPS’s image consistent with all messaging that is being distributed during the COVID-19 pandemic, we also ask that you please make sure that any photos or videos that will be shared publicly or on social media are a reflection of our values.

Do:

  • Do take photos of special things happening at your campus

  • Do use your social media to share important information for families

  • Do post “thank yous” to community partners who support your school

  • Do make sure everyone in the photo is wearing a mask properly (covering both nose and mouth) If a face shield is worn, a mask needs to be visibly worn under it.

  • Do make sure people are spaced out appropriately

  • Do take photos outside when possible

  • Do closely examine the background and surroundings that may be captured in your photo/video

  • Do ensure you have proper permissions to post photos of students and staff

Don’t:

  • Don’t take or share photos of people in large groups; don’t gather in large groups

  • Don’t take or share photos of people touching (this includes selfies)

  • Don’t take or share photos of people out of compliance with OKCPS safety guidelines

OKCPS’ Six-Point Safety Plan outlines a variety of safety protocols that have been put in place to protect our staff, students and families. Any photo or video shared by OKCPS and/or its employees is a direct reflection of the district’s commitment to following safety guidelines.

If you’re unsure about an image, the Communications Team is more than happy to help review any photos or videos you plan to post. Email us at communications@okcps.org.

Additionally, the OKCPS Social Media Policy (E-07) was updated at the December 7, 2020 board meeting. Staff should review and become familiar with the content of this policy so you are fully aware of the expectations of OKCPS employees as it relates to social media.

In order for OKCPS to protect our reputation and maintain accurate and consistent information, it’s imperative that our employees follow these guidelines.

We appreciate your cooperation.

Dear Coolidge Faculty & Staff,
It has been my privilege to be your leader for the 2019-2020 school year, and what a year it has been.  I can't thank everyone enough for your endless hours of volunteering, chaperoning, reading, organizing, donating, and doing and doing whatever was necessary to support our students both at school and at home.   Together we welcomed new families into Coolidge as the Pathway to Greatness was implemented.  Many teams were changed to help strengthen our teaching teams.  Our grade bands have changed and we now serve students up to 4th grade and our 5th and 6th-grade Crocodiles found their way to middle school.  We added new faculty, new students, and a new STEAM lab to our learning community. Standards-based planning was the focus of our PLC meetings and we all grew and learned together.

We had a busy learning adventure in the fall and celebrated with our Fall Into a Good Book.  Fall quickly gave way to winter and the learning and events continued. a musical program performed by our Honor Choir.  We were able to our fantastic community volunteers and had our first Blue Scholar celebration for exceptional students.  I'm sure it will be even better next year.

No one knew that when we left the building for a week of Spring Break that it would be the last time we were together as a learning community for the 2019-2020 school year. Many of us had adventures planned.  We were all planning on returning refreshed and ready to begin the final quarter of the school year.  Covid 19 changed all our plans.  I want to thank each and every one of you who accepted the challenge of ensuring that our students continued to learn for the remainder of the school year.  Weekly learning packets were given to students and others continued their learning online.  Teachers and assistants called students to check on them and provide assistance.  Online learning games were hosted and the education of our students continued.

Thank you for a job well done to an incredible group of professionals.

Melissa

Opportunity Statement:   Coolidge Elementary will continue to provide all students with academic, social, and emotional growth opportunities through great teaching and the utilization of our community resources.  We will maintain high expectations for all students, as well as expand our efforts to cultivate a positive school culture that encourages intellectual and social growth.”

Distance Learning begins.
Contacting Students:  Please be in contact with your students at least twice a week.  If you do not want them to have your phone number *67 will hide your phone number.

Please do not use ZOOM with students.  To video conference with students please use Google Hangouts.

Flexibility continues to be an important part of our role as educators.  We are in unchartered waters for everyone - and we will be practicing that skill of Lifelong Learners together that are flexible and able to adapt to the changing needs of our students.  Everyone is going to need grace.  Everyone is going to have days where they handle this better than others. Your students still need you and so do I.

I.E.P. Meetings
I.E.P. meetings can’t happen without EVERYONE present that should be in attendance.  Attendance includes the Special Education Teacher, the Classroom Teacher, an Administrator, and a Parent.  If the parent needs an interpreter that means that we have an interpreter on the call as well.
We are having Distance Learning.  Distance Learning is going to include IEP meetings.  It is the expectation that you participate in these meetings.  You can use your phone or your computer.  Ms. Alvarez will still be assigning interpreters to the meetings.  Ms. Knott let me know that she has been asked to get all her IEP's up to date to September 15th.  For reference she has 55 students on her caseload - so this could mean a lot of meetings.  Ms. Hunt, Ms. Cappellero, Mr. Christian, and Ms. Peake will also be scheduling meetings.  It is going to be busy.
For step by step on using Google Hangouts you can use OKCPS online training, Hoonuit  and type in Google Hangouts.  In about 30 minutes you can learn what you need to get you started.

Thank you Ms. Gorman for sharing this information:
